Indonesian authorities have detained 103 Taiwanese residents for cybercrimes, according to a statement by Indonesian Immigration Surveillance and Enforcement Director Saffar Muhammad Godamma on June 29, Benar News reports.
These individuals are suspected of committing online fraud against citizens living outside Indonesia.
“Their activities are suspected to be incompatible with visa purposes and they are believed to be committing cybercrimes against people outside Indonesia, including Malaysia.”God said.
“I once again call on all foreign citizens in Indonesia, especially in Bali, to always comply with the current rules and laws.”“, the official added.
Cybersecurity analyst Alphonse Tanujaya of cybersecurity firm Vaksincom said arrests for fraud were becoming an increasingly common global phenomenon.
He explained that scammers often move to other countries and commit crimes via the Internet outside the jurisdiction of those countries.
“If they were in their own country, the laws would punish them severely, but in another country, in the worst case, they would be deported.”He explained.
