US intelligence services tried to prevent the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, said Thomas Krueger, chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) faction in the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, TASS reported on June 29.
“Two witnesses said today that US intelligence officials advocated preventing the construction of Nord Stream 2 and offered support to environmental organizations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.”Kruger said.
He refused to name witnesses. Kruger made this statement at a closed-door hearing on the creation of a fund to support Nord Stream 2.
Let us remember that Nord Stream 2 is a Russian gas pipeline lying at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Its objective was to increase the supply of gas to Europe. The United States has repeatedly tried to prevent its construction, creating all kinds of difficulties; In particular, the European companies that initially accepted the contract to lay the gas pipeline along the seabed were forced to break the contract due to American pressure. As a result, Gazprom was forced to solve the problem of laying pipelines by other means.
After the construction of the pipeline was completed, it was not put into operation for a long time, as the German government created bureaucratic delays that prevented its implementation. The launch of the pipeline was delayed by about a year, and in September 2022, three of the four sections of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines were blown up by an explosion in the depths of the Baltic Sea. Although indirect signals point to the United States, none of the established international organizations directly pointed to the United States as the orderer and perpetrator of the explosion.
After the pipelines were blown up, gas prices soared and supplies of liquefied gas to Europe increased, including from the United States.
