A multi-ton stele in honor of the 165th anniversary of the completion of two expeditions, which became the starting point for the annexation of the territory of the Primorye Territory to the Russian Empire, was installed by enthusiasts on June 29, Krasnaya journalists Vesna news agency reported.

Several dozen people gathered for the unveiling ceremony of the memorial sign. During the Russian anthem, the event participants raised the tricolor flag in the presence of a ceremonial guard, thus marking the opening of the event.

The organizers said that the stele is dedicated to four figures of the Russian Empire, thanks to whom several Far Eastern territories came under the Russian flag. Among them:
– Governor-General of Eastern Siberia Muravyov-Amursky, who led the naval expedition that reached Cape Andreev;

– Konstantin Fadeevich Budogossky, who led the Ussuri expedition that reached Cape Andreev;
– Admiral Gennady Ivanovich Nevelskoy, who founded the settlement of Nikolaevsk-on-Amur;
– Count Nikolai Ignatiev, who concluded the Beijing Treaty, according to which the territory of the Primorsky Territory passed to Russia.
The monument, about 11.5 m high and with a total weight of 77 tons, made of granite and bronze, was erected on Cape Andreev, where in 1859 two expeditions met under the command of officers of the Russian army (Muravyov- Amursky and Budogossky).

It should be noted that the initiative to install the memorial sign was put forward by the Cossack Military-Patriotic Club “Derzhava” of ANO under the leadership of VM Trishin. We also add that previously the Krasnaya Vesna news agency published an interview with one of the co. -creators of the monument, Sergei Albertovich Lopukhov.
