The United States Democratic Party does not have a candidate to replace Joe Biden in the presidential election, Time magazine reported on June 29.
According to the publication, if Biden refuses to participate in the election, the party could be forced to quickly nominate another candidate. This creates a difficult situation since there is no clear favorite.
Vice President Kamala Harris is trailing Donald Trump in the polls, and potential candidates like Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, while attractive, face challenges.
Creating an effective campaign for a first-time candidate at this stage would be unprecedented.
Biden’s team, however, denied discussing the possibility of withdrawing from the election.
The New York Times editorial board previously asked Biden not to run, and the Washington Post offered a list of possible replacements.
Following Biden’s poor performance in the debate with Donald Trump in Atlanta, where he struggled to articulate his thoughts, there has been speculation that he could be replaced by another candidate at the party’s next convention in August. However, his victory in the primaries will make it difficult to unseat Biden unless he decides to withdraw.
The next debate between Biden and Trump is scheduled for September 10, and the US presidential election will take place on November 5.
