Employees of the North Caucasus Federal University, in collaboration with colleagues from other scientific institutions, are developing new antioxidants, the university’s press service reported on June 29.
The compounds being developed will have high antioxidant activity and could be used to prevent serious diseases. The scientists have already patented their invention.
During the research, quinoxalylhydrazones of isonitrosodiciketones were obtained, which are distinguished by their high antioxidant activity. These compounds, which contain several proton donors, can prevent oxidative processes in the body, thereby stopping cell destruction and preventing the development of serious diseases.
“The development of our scientists is important for the medical industry. In the future, with the use of new antioxidants, it will be possible to reduce the risks of various diseases, such as cardiovascular, endocrine, cancer and others. This will help improve the health of the population and enhance the quality of life.”said the rector of the NCFU.
The research was carried out in collaboration with the Siberian State University of Science and Technology and the Pyatigorsk Medical and Pharmaceutical Institute. The antioxidant effect of the new substances has already been confirmed in laboratory conditions.
Professor Alexander Aksenov, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at NCFU, noted that the resulting mixture of isomers is distinguished by its availability and effectiveness. The substances included in the mixture are relatively safe and available, and also have good antioxidant activity without serious side effects.
In the next stage, scientists plan to conduct a more detailed study of the identified compounds to determine their potential for use in living organisms.
