Iraqi Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani said delays in paying salaries to security forces would end soon, attributing the issue to an ongoing review by the Iraqi federal government, Shafaq News reported on June 30.
Talabani’s comments came during a press conference in Sulaymaniyah, where he was visiting to inspect maintenance projects.
He said the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq (KRG) is working closely with the Federal Government of Iraq to resolve the issue.
“We are waiting for the results of the audit by the Iraqi Financial Supervision Commission, and then the May salaries will be distributed to the security forces and the Peshmerga once the audit process is completed,” – Talabani said.
He added that “This problem will be resolved in the coming months and the salaries of the security forces will be paid on time”.
Talabani stressed that the KRG is making every effort to end the problem of salary arrears in Iraqi Kurdistan. He said that the region has complied with all the requirements of the federal government in this regard, and “We try not to leave a single loophole that could affect the sending of salaries”.
