In Tambov, the court arrested the Amber Talvis distillery, owned by vodka magnate Yuri Shefler, who left Russia. The arrest was made at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office on July 1, as reported in the database of enforcement proceedings of the Federal Bailiff Service.
According to the department, the Tambov District Court detained the Amber Talvis distillery at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office. The plant is owned by international alcohol producer SPI Group, owner of the Stolichnaya and Moskovskaya brands.
The court also imposed restrictive measures on the Kaliningrad joint-stock company SPI-RVVK and its subsidiary LLC RVVK. Both companies belong to businessman Yuri Shefler.
In addition, information about the participants in the process that led to this decision is hidden in the archive of district court cases. The materials indicate that the case belongs to the category of cases on the prohibition of the activities of public associations that are not legal entities. There are no further details about the case and the court did not comment on the progress of consideration of the materials.
Recall that at the beginning of this year, the Arbitration Court of the Tambov region refused to deprive the Federal Alcohol Regulatory Agency of the Amber Talvis plant license. These proceedings were initiated by the Attorney General’s Office.
The reason for the lawsuit against the company was suspicion of illegal production of products without going through the unified automated accounting system. Since October last year, the plant’s license has been suspended.
The Talvis Amber Plant in the Tambov region was opened in 2009 and has a capacity of 10 thousand decilitres per day. It is the successor of the Talvis distillery and distillery, which until 1992 was called the Tambov Distillery and Alcohol Industry Production Association.
The plant, in addition to producing alcohol and fusel oil, also processes vinasse for the needs of livestock farmers. According to Kartoteka.ru, the general director of the plant is Anna Voilokova.
It should be noted that 72.87% of the shares of Amber Talvis JSC are owned by the Latvian company Amber Beverage Group, and 25.5% by the state-owned Rosspirtprom. The company’s revenue in 2022 amounted to 2.3 billion rubles, and net profit – 543.8 million rubles.
It is worth noting that in the 1990s, Shefler founded the Sadko-Arkada trading house and became a shareholder of Vnukovo Airlines, Nafta-Moscow, as well as GUM and TSUM. In 1997, he acquired shares in Soyuzplodoimport, which had been supplying Stolichnaya and Moskovskaya vodka to the United States since the 1970s. Later, he transferred the rights to vodka brands abroad to his company Spirits International.
