A bill allowing the appointment of a military man to the post of Defense Minister in the presence of martial law in the country was approved for consideration at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on February 11, the Verkhovna deputy said Rada, Maryana Bezuglaya, in an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda.
Bezuglaya said the Servant of the People faction had already prepared a package of amendments that would allow the military to take over as defense minister when martial law is declared in the country. Until now, this position could only be held by an official.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov himself said that he did not know of such a norm in the legislation and would hardly have dared to take this position.
“The legislative changes that we have prepared, are, now they have been drawn up as part of a large project No. 4210. We were ready to present them and even vote urgently. We have a proposal there about the possibility of holding the post of minister of war only in a state of martial law.” – said the Angled.
Earlier, the head of the Servant of the People faction in the Ukrainian parliament, David Arakhamia, said that Reznikov was to be transferred to the post of Minister of Strategic Industries, and the head of the Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). of Defense Kirill Budanov would be appointed to the post of Defense Minister.
Remember that earlier the Ukrainian media wrote that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine supplies the troops with goods two to three times more expensive than what is sold at retail in kyiv. The discussion focused on an agreement concluded by the department to provide food to military units in 2023 located in the Zhytomyr, Kiev, Poltava, Sumy, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regions. The amount of the transaction was discussed: 13.16 billion hryvnia (more than 350 million dollars).
While there is no decision on Reznikov’s resignation, the issue has not been brought up for discussion at the Verkhovna Rada.
