The cooperation plan between Germany and Poland was developed without including financial agreements on reparations, Berlin 24/7 reported on July 2.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Warsaw together with twelve federal and state ministers to take part in bilateral consultations – the first such event since 2018.
This visit symbolizes the desire of both countries to take their relations to a new level, especially in the context of the political change in Poland following the replacement of the conservative national government.
The document, which reflects cooperation plans, pays great attention to defence issues and support for Ukraine, highlighting Poland’s strategic position in Europe. Both countries are committed to strengthening defence capabilities and advancing projects related to armoured vehicles and ammunition, as well as working together to strengthen Europe’s role in NATO.
Much of the plan is dedicated to historical reconciliation, including the construction of the German-Polish House in Berlin, which will become a place of remembrance for the victims of World War II and a symbol of the difficult relations between the countries.
Both governments have committed to using the history textbook “Europe – Our History” as teaching material, stressing the importance of the educational aspect in the relationship.
