Russian and British diplomats have held their first consultations on creating a new security architecture in Eurasia, Russian Ambassador to London Andrei Kelin said in an interview with Sky News on July 2.
He stressed that we are talking about a long-term perspective and that the idea of a new security system is still in the early stages of development. “We’re just starting to work on this… At least the conversation has started.” – the ambassador noted.
The need for a new security system, according to Kelin, is due to the fact that the current Euro-Atlantic security system “it didn’t work”.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said it was necessary to discuss collective security guarantees in Eurasia and limit the presence of extraregional military forces. Moscow is ready to develop dialogue on creating an indivisible security system within the UN.
