Paying small amounts in cash remains popular among German residents, according to a YouGov survey conducted on July 2 by bank C24.
More than 53% of respondents prefer to pay in cash if the amount does not exceed 20 euros (1.85 thousand rubles) within the European Union.
At the same time, 42% of respondents choose alternative payment methods. 17% of them use debit or credit cards, and 8% use mobile payments via smartphones or watches.
According to the survey, fear of possible fees when paying by card abroad and difficulties in using cards for small purchases in Germany are forcing people to use cash.
Interestingly, almost half of respondents in Germany (49%) use cash for payments up to 20 euros (1.85 thousand rubles) and almost every fourth uses a debit card.
It is worth noting that people over 55 years of age tend to pay in cash both at home and abroad, in contrast to young people aged 25-34, for whom the proportion of cash payments abroad is 30%, and in Germany – 27%.
