A five-year-old girl, angry that her parents would not let her keep two dog puppies she found on the street, went on a rampage and set fire to the family home in the city of Juazeiro, in the northern state of Bahia, Brazil, in retaliation.
It took firefighters more than two hours to extinguish the fire, which caused significant damage to property and destroyed almost all furniture and appliances in the house.
The family had gone out to dinner the night before, and the couple’s two daughters, a five-year-old girl and her four-year-old sister, who had stayed on the sidewalk to play while their parents dined at a restaurant, encountered two dogs. They hid the two small animals in the trunk of their parents’ car to avoid being seen, and only took them out after they returned home.
The next day, the parents found the dogs, identified them as belonging to an acquaintance who lived near the restaurant where they had gone, and returned the animals to their rightful owner.
Both girls were unhappy, and soon after their parents left to return the dogs, the older, five-year-old, completely out of control with anger, decided to take revenge.
She set fire to the living room sofa and other furniture in the house, and the flames quickly spread throughout the room while the two sisters stood outside and watched.
According to the mothers of the two girls, the fire burned beds and other furniture, a giant-screen TV, a refrigerator, a stove, clothes, two cell phones, and even a briefcase in which the couple kept documents in addition to their cash were destroyed.
