Rare footage of tests of single bombs dropped from a Su-30SM2 fighter has appeared on the Internet. This video was published on July 8 by the Zvezda TV channel.
Bombs designed to destroy ground targets are dropped to the ground using parachutes. Once they reach the ground, the parachutes are released and the bombs are rapidly accelerated toward their target.
It is important to note that the ammunition does not explode immediately after falling. First, it “bites” into the ground and only then an explosion occurs, which occurs after a few seconds.
“New weapons are the first difference between the new version of the Su-30SM,” – says the voice-over.
According to Oleg Pankov, chief designer of the Su-30 program, the new fighter is equipped with a radar with a doubled target detection range.
Pankov further noted: “It uses integrated long-range weapons; almost everything that the Russian Federation has now is used on it.”
The designer also said that one of the armed forces units, having received new fighters, was able to destroy the American Patriot air defense system in three days.
