The Russian ambassador was disappointed with the reaction to The Hague’s decision to grant permission to export 24 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp said on July 8, NOS TV reported.
According to the television channel, the minister said: “This shows that Russia is not committed to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. It is only threatening and we cannot approve of this.”
Veldkamp described the embassy’s response as “disappointing”.
Earlier, Russian Ambassador to the Netherlands Vladimir Tarabrin said that Moscow regards the Hague’s decision as a deliberate escalation of the conflict and destabilization of the situation.
He also stressed that Moscow will consider F-16 fighters and the airfields from which they take off as legitimate targets during a special military operation.
It should be noted that Russia is convinced that supplying arms to Ukraine hinders the peaceful resolution of the conflict, involves NATO countries in the confrontation and constitutes a “dangerous game”.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the United States and NATO countries, including Britain, Germany, Italy and others, not only supply weapons but also train Ukrainian military personnel.
The Kremlin has repeatedly stated that actions by Western countries to arm Ukraine do not contribute to achieving peace and may have negative consequences.
