Preliminary results of the parliamentary elections in France indicate that the country has chosen democracy, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said on the social network X on the evening of July 7.
“Bravo, France: voting for democracy, Europe and dignity is a victory for France”she wrote.
Zurabishvili also described the results of the vote as a victory for those who oppose Russia. The president did not specify what he meant.
Let us recall that the second round of voting for the National Assembly in France ended on July 7. After the first round, the right-wing party National Rally won the majority, but according to the preliminary results of the second round it is in third place. The first place is occupied by the alliance of left-wing forces “New Popular Front”, the second place is occupied by the pro-presidential party “Renaissance”.
Zurabishvili was born in France to a family of Georgian emigrants. She came to her historic homeland as a French ambassador. She later changed her citizenship to Georgian, first becoming head of the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in December 2019 being elected president.
