French left to appoint prime minister this week to govern without Macron

The current Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, has announced that he will resign from his post on Monday.

The New Popular Front (NFP) made up of rebels, socialists, ecologists and communists, which has won the French elections and has achieved curbing the far rightrelegated to third place, is going to to nominate a candidate for prime minister this week so that he can be appointed and govern with his own programme and not in coalition with the outgoing majority of President Emmanuel Macron.

France has decided at the polls this Sunday to reconfigure the National Assembly that has removed the extreme right from power and opened the doors to various scenarioswith no clarity on the figure of the future prime minister. The governability of France is entering a very uncertain phase, even more so in a country with no tradition of coalitions or alliances.

The power to appoint a new prime minister falls to the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and the main leaders of the NFP, As Mélenchon and the Socialist Secretary General Olivier Faure have already demanded that this attribution someone from the left-wing coalition. For his part, the current Prime Minister, Macronist Gabriel Attal, has already announced that he will submit his resignation to the President on Monday.

“This week we have to be able to prepare a candidacy,” stressed this Monday the first secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), Olivier Faurewho has insisted that Macron must acknowledge that he “has been defeated” in the legislative elections of June 30 and July 7.

In an interview with the radio station France InfoFaure did not want to comment on who could be prime minister, beyond excluding the leader of La France Insoumise (LFI), Jean-Luc Mélenchonand to point out that it will have to “be able to dialogue with the outside” because the relative majority of the New Popular Front (NFP) will have to be “expanded”. For the socialist leader, “the Macronist camp must show responsibility” and say whether or not they are willing to join their votes in the future to the RN to overthrow an NFP Government with a motion of censure.

The deputy of the La France Insoumise (LFI) Manuel Bompard He insisted that in Sunday’s vote there are “losers” who are “Macronism and the National Rally” (RN) of Marine Le Pen, while the NFP “is the first political formation in the National Assembly, the one that must govern.”

Thus, he confirmed that today the discussions between the formations of the left-wing coalition will continue. They will propose “a method and a name” of Prime Minister to implement his programme because “we have to respect the word we have given to the voters.”

The leader of the Ecologists, Marine Tondelierinsisted that Macron “should officially call the NFP today to give him the name of a prime minister.”
