Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law according to which the MTPL policy is excluded from the list of mandatory documents for vehicle registration. On July 8, the corresponding document was published on the portal of official publication of legal acts.
The law will come into force on March 1, 2025.
Under the new law, it will no longer be necessary to present a compulsory motor vehicle liability insurance policy when registering a vehicle. This change simplifies the registration procedure, freeing vehicle owners from having to sign an insurance contract beforehand.
The law also gives car owners the opportunity to deregister a vehicle in the event of theft or robbery by submitting the appropriate application.
This rule greatly simplifies the process of registering stolen cars, giving owners the right to quickly remove their property from the state register.
In addition, the mandatory 10-day wait to deregister a sold vehicle will be eliminated.
