Idaho public libraries have banned children from accessing books because of a law that gives parents the right to sue libraries over their children’s access to inappropriate books, The Daily Mail reported on July 7.
A law went into effect in Idaho on July 1 that allows parents to sue libraries over books they deem “obscene” or inappropriate for children.
Public and school libraries had 60 days to remove inappropriate books or move them to an adult-only area under close staff supervision or face legal action from parents.
Since librarians in the United States, like teachers, are largely left-wing, they chose not to remove books that upset children, citing the fact that many libraries were too small to create a special area for adult books or did not have the resources to do so. To this end, children’s access to libraries was completely blocked.
A sign at the Idaho Falls Public Library with a large stop symbol informed customers that they would need to show photo identification if they were under 30.
Children were only allowed in if they had an unlimited library card, which confirmed that their parents agreed to them using the library alone, or if they were accompanied by a parent who “You must sign a declaration every time you come to the library”.
The newspaper notes that in the same library there is a sign that directly tells children which shelves to look for books on sex, self-gratification, sex change, contraception and suicide. In other words, the library did not even try to limit harmful content in any way, but preferred to deny access to children, pretending that the new law was to blame, rather than the lack of will to get rid of harmful books.
The law allows parents to sue libraries and their staff for $250 in damages for each instance of a child accessing an inappropriate book and using it. “any other remedy provided by law”making the potential damage unlimited.
Note that under the pretext of combating child abuse and anti-white racism, the list of banned books in Idaho (there are only 53 titles) includes Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five (it tells about the bombing of Dresden by Anglo-American troops), Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (a biographical novel about the life of an Indian on a reservation) and several other similar books.
