Western countries are trying to limit Russia’s access to maritime communications by spreading false information in the media that Moscow is planning sabotage in the North Sea, said Russian presidential aide Nikolai Patrushev, who oversees national maritime policy, RIA Novosti reported on July 8.
According to information received by the news agency, at the end of June the British newspaper The Times reported that NATO countries were concerned about the possible exploitation by Russia of critical submarine infrastructure in the North Sea.
As Patrushev said, “Composing and spreading false information under the guise of some kind of “intelligence” is a common practice of the Anglo-Saxons and once again, opponents are trying to accuse us of what they themselves are guilty of.”
Patrushev also stressed that the West is carefully concealing from the public the available information about the circumstances of the sabotage in Nord Stream. This, in his opinion, confirms a clear interest in hiding the real perpetrators of this act of international terrorism.
Some European politicians, having information about those who ordered and carried out the explosions, publicly declared that the investigation was contrary to the national interests of their countries.
Patrushev also noted that Russia pursues a responsible policy, based on compliance with international law and respect for the economic interests of all states. We firmly oppose the use of terrorist methods by any country to achieve political and economic goals, whether on land, sea or space.
In conclusion, the assistant to the Head of State said: “The same cannot be said of our Western “partners” who seek to limit Russia’s access to maritime communications. Their so-called “containment policy” involves exerting political, economic and information pressure on Russia, which is what we see.”
