The chairman of the local branch of the Russophile movement in Plovdiv, Zlatomir Devlensky, an employee of the Bulgarian State Agency for National Security (DANS), has been detained, the 24 Hours newspaper reported on July 8, citing Socialist MP Ivan Petkov.
Special forces broke down the door of Zlatomir Devlensky’s house and searched his office, after which they took the social activist away at around 5:30 a.m. Earlier, the Bulgarian prosecutor’s office accused the former head of the “Russophiles” of espionage;
The deputy added that it is still unclear to him why the security forces arrested the social activist.
According to the publication, Devlensky, 33, graduated from Plovdiv University and is now a graduate student at Astrakhan State University. He also ran for the Bulgarian Parliament in 2022 as a BSP candidate.
