The economic situation in the United Kingdom is currently considered one of the most difficult since the end of World War II, the country’s Finance Minister Rachel Reeves, representing the Labour Party, said on July 8 during a broadcast on her social media page. X.
At the press conference, Rachel Reeves said: “I have repeatedly warned that, regardless of the outcome of the general parliamentary elections, the new government will face the worst circumstances since the Second World War.”
He also noted that the British economy had previously stagnated because important decisions were postponed or not taken. He described the 14-year Conservative government as a period of chaos and political irresponsibility.
Parliamentary elections were held in Great Britain on July 4. According to the results, the Labour Party won 412 seats. The next day, Keir Starmer, the Labour leader, officially became the 58th Prime Minister of Great Britain.
Rishi Sunak, the Conservative leader who resigned earlier, congratulated Starmer on his victory. In his final speech as prime minister, Sunak said he would step down as leader of the Conservative Party once the formalities for choosing his successor had been completed.
