The Ukrainian community in Portugal has condemned the Russian attacks on Ukraine on Monday that damaged a children’s hospital in Kyiv and called for additional sanctions against Moscow, including economic agents and artists who support the Kremlin and the invasion.
In response to large-scale attacks on several Ukrainian cities attributed to Russian forces that have left dozens dead and injured, the president of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal deplored “yet another terrible terrorist act against civilians.”
In his statement, Pavel Sadokha emphasizes that the Russian president “was not satisfied with the deportation of 700 thousand children from Ukraine,” referring to data voiced by the President of the International Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin and this Monday Vladimir Putin “gave the order to attack the largest children’s hospital” in the country.
“In the face of this terrible pain for us, we once again call for recognition that this is not a war, but a genocide against Ukrainians. In addition, we call for the introduction of new tough sanctions against the terrorist state – the Russian Federation – and against all those who support Russian aggression,” the statement says.
According to the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal, sanctions should apply “to all economic agents that bring profit to the Russian economy, as well as to other areas that promote the Russian terrorist regime,” including the cultural sector.
“Why should there be restrictions for migrant workers who seek to improve their economic situation through honest work, while at the same time visas are freely issued to Russian artists who support Putin’s criminal regime?” the education president asks.
In his statement, Pavel Sadokha cites the participation of Russian artist Nina Kraviz in the Super Bock Super Rock festival as an example, accusing her of supporting the Kremlin leader.
“Whoever supports Putin will entertain people in Portugal and make huge profits from it! In light of today’s tragedy [segunda-feira]”The result of the bombing of the children’s hospital in Kyiv, it seems inhumane,” laments the Association of Ukrainians, which also calls for restrictions on the issuance of visas to followers of the “terrorist regime” that “is waging a genocidal war.”
Russian forces fired “more than 40 missiles” at several Ukrainian cities on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram.
According to Ukrainian authorities, the attacks killed more than 20 people, injured dozens and damaged a children’s hospital in Kyiv.
Russia’s Defense Ministry denies deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure in several Ukrainian cities and blames air defenses for damage in places like Kyiv.
