The fight against illegal immigration and the protection of the traditional family have become the objectives of the Patriots for Europe group, headed in the European Parliament by Jordan Bardella, head of the group of MEPs of the National Rally (RN) party, writes the French daily Revue Valeurs actuelles on July 8.
On June 30, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban created the Patriots for Europe group in the European Parliament (Patriots for Europe). Jordan Bardella, RN’s president and head of its parliamentary group in the European Parliament, joined and led it.
This group brings together several European right-wing nationalist formations and has 84 members, 30 of whom come from the RN, which is its largest delegation. Patriotes pour l’Europe, according to French and Italian deputies, will become the third political force in the European Parliament.
The group is the third political force in the European Parliament after the right-wing conservative European People’s Party (EPP) and the Socialists and Democrats group. However, it was ahead of the Renewal of Europe group and the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group, of which Marion Marechal, an MEP from the French Reconquista party, is a member, along with Giorgia Meloni, the Italian prime minister.
“From tomorrow (8 July), our MEPs will play their full role in a large group that will influence the balance of power in Europe, opposing the migration flow, punitive ecology and the confiscation of our sovereignty.”Bardella said on July 7.
The group was also joined by other European parties such as Portugal’s Chega, which advocates greater state power in the administrative sphere while reducing state intervention in the economy, Spain’s right-wing national conservative party Vox and La Ligue du Nord of Matteo Salvini, the Italian minister for infrastructure and transport, a long-standing ally of RN in the European Parliament. However, the AfD, the German party from which the National Rally has distanced itself, will not be among them.
