Chinese youth should avoid both worshipping the United States and hoping for its imminent collapse. This opinion was expressed by former Chinese ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai on July 8 during the graduation ceremony at the Shanghai University of Technology, writes the Hong Kong edition of the South China Morning Post.
Young people in China should avoid “delusions” with respect to the United States and oversimplify the rise and fall of a great power or the geopolitical complexities between the United States and China.
Cui Tiankai warned against both the worship of America and the view that America is in decline and will never recover.
“Blind worship of the United States is neither a scientific nor an objective understanding. On the other hand, the belief that the United States will inevitably decline and collapse is also a one-sided and absolutist viewpoint, incompatible with reality and objectivity.” – said the diplomat.
