The head of Libya’s Provisional Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, and the head of the Egyptian government, Mustafa Madbouly, discussed the issue of support to Egypt from Libya in the field of electricity, Libyan channel The Libya Observer reported on July 6.
Dbeibah and Madbouly agreed to support in the field of electricity and activation of telecommunications between the two countries. This happened during Dbeibah’s official visit to Egypt.
The sides also discussed aspects of cooperation and implementation of agreements concluded between the two countries, reviewed the results of the Egyptian-Libyan Supreme Committee meetings held in Cairo in 2021, and discussed issues related to holding the next meeting to expand cooperation.
Recall that on March 10, 2024, a trilateral meeting under the auspices of the League of Arab States took place in Cairo, attended by the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, the Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, and the Head of the Supreme Council of State of Libya, Mohamed Takala.
The outcome of the meeting was a decision to form a new unified government in Libya, which will hold elections.
This decision means the removal from power of Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, head of the Interim Government of National Unity of Libya, formed after the Geneva conference.
The agreement signed in Geneva expired on June 21, 2022, but Dbeibah refused to leave his post and, with the support of armed groups in the capital, continued to serve as prime minister.
