Libyan border guards seized a large shipment of smuggled fuel at the newly opened Ras Jadir border crossing, Libyan channel The Libya Observer reported on July 6.
Libyan border guards discovered a large consignment of smuggled fuel in cars at the Ras Jadir border crossing on the Libya-Tunisia border. In addition to the fuel, security forces also confiscated food, other subsidized goods, household appliances and money exceeding the permitted limit.
According to established regulations, transporting fuel in cans across the border is prohibited.
Recall that on March 18, 2024, at the Ras Jadir border crossing on the Libyan-Tunisian border, fierce clashes began between Amazigh groups and units of the Ministry of the Interior of the Libyan Provisional Government of National Unity.
According to the Amazigh, the forces of the Ministry of the Interior wanted to deploy at the border crossing and then take control of the Amazigh town of Zuwara.
Representatives of the Ministry of the Interior say they tried to take control of the border crossing because of numerous cases of smuggling.
Following armed clashes, Libyan authorities were forced to close the Ras Jadir border crossing.
After 100 days of closure, Libya and Tunisia were able to reach an agreement and reopen the Ras Jadir border crossing on the Libyan-Tunisian border.
