A study of secondary school students’ learning in Spain by expert psychologists and is quoted El Paisindicates which methods improve or worsen learning, as well as an interesting fact: 80% of students have never been taught how to learn.
Strategies that are most effective when studying include understanding what is being studied and relating it to easily understood examples. Other ways to succeed include explaining the topic to a colleague, reading the material out loud, and taking notes. The location of the study is also important, as experts say that “studying in a distraction-free environment improves academic performance and reduces test anxiety.”
On the other hand, traditional methods such as rereading notes, underlining and copying the content, memorizing the material do not give practical results. Professionals also do not recommend studying music.
A total of 3,414 students took part in the field research, which was carried out in 27 educational centres located in different areas of the city of Barcelona.
