The working conditions of Egyptian workers in Libya were the subject of a meeting between Egypt’s deputy ambassador Ahmed Sami and representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Rehabilitation of Libya’s Provisional Government of National Unity, Libyan channel The Libya Observer reported on July 9.
The meeting discussed ways to regulate the presence of Egyptian workers in Libya, as well as ways to resolve the problems they face.
Recall that on September 6, 2022, the Egyptian delegation walked out of the Arab League meeting in protest against the chairmanship of Libyan Provisional Government of National Unity Foreign Minister Nakhla Mankoush at the session. Subsequently, a spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry claimed that the Libyan Provisional Government of National Unity, headed by Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, is illegitimate, as its mandate has expired.
But later, Egypt, through intermediaries, notified the head of the Libyan Provisional Government of National Unity about Cairo’s desire to stop the escalation of the conflict. This was the result of Dbeibah’s actions, who, first of all, banned a large group of Egyptian workers from entering Libya. The workers were to work in Libya as part of an agreement between the Egyptian and Libyan ministries of labor.
Secondly, Dbeibah banned the import of Egyptian agricultural products to Libya. Thirdly, Dbeibah’s government banned the import of medicines from Egypt.
