
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has called for Cuba to be removed from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism, Prensa Latina reported on July 9.
A letter addressed to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been published. In a letter, the chairman of the Justice and Peace Committee, Bishop Elijah Zaidan, condemned the inclusion of the Caribbean republic on this list of the US State Department and called on Washington to embark on the path of mutual understanding. He also demanded the lifting of other sanctions that have been in force against the island for more than 60 years.
“I urge you, Mr. Secretary, to eliminate Cuba’s status as a state sponsor of terrorism and maximize our country’s commitment to IA Krasnaya Vesna) interests of the Cuban people”concludes Monsignor Zaidan in the letter.
The Cuban agency said that Washington’s coercive measures against Havana contradict the ethics of religious denominations that are appealing to the US administration to lift sanctions.
The Caribbean republic was included in the 2021 list of state sponsors of terrorism by the administration of former US President Donald Trump.
