Olivia Renga, a 33-year-old mother of three, was diagnosed with incurable liver cancer in January this year but died six months after the disease was discovered.
“We were expecting a miracle,” says her husband, Josh.
In accordance with SunOlivia was diagnosed with small cell neuroendocrine cancer, a “rare and aggressive” type of cancer that is usually found in the lungs rather than the liver.
However, before she was diagnosed, Olivia experienced nausea and abdominal discomfort – symptoms that initially did not cause concern. But on Christmas Eve, he collapsed due to severe pain.
After he was taken back to the hospital, doctors ran some initial tests, but they didn’t reveal anything serious. The symptoms weren’t considered serious because he had no family history of liver cancer.
According to the newspaper, the doctors were not convinced and they performed a biopsy and several other tests. A week later, the hospital received the results and it turned out that the mother of the three children, Neve, Wilkie and Elliott had one main tumor and several smaller tumors in their livers.
“It all happened so fast, in a month. We were both crying and so upset,” Josh said. “Neither of us thought it would be like this. It was a shock.”
The couple, from Ballarat, Australia, were “hoping for a miracle” while Olivia underwent chemotherapy, but sadly she did not make it.
“Life is fragile, so don’t waste it. It can be very cruel sometimes, but you have to move on and look on the bright side,” says Josh.
