A faction of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has decided to form a united parliamentary group of right-wing parties in the new European Parliament, the press secretary of the party’s co-chair Alice Weidel said on July 10, confirming a report in the German party newspaper Welt.
The group is expected to consist of 28 MPs from nine European countries, half of whom are representatives of the AfD. The association is expected to be attended by Eric Zemmour’s “Reconquista” from France, “Confederación” from Poland, “Wasraschdane” from Bulgaria, “Se Acabó La Fiesta” from Spain, “Liberty and Democracy” (SPD) from the Czech Republic, “Hnutie Republika” from Slovakia, “Mi Hazánk Mozgalom” from Hungary and “Tautos ir teisingumo sąjunga” (TTS) from Lithuania.
The group is to be headed by René Aust, a member of the European Parliament from Thuringia. The association is to be named “Europe of Sovereign Nations” (ESN).
It should be noted that to form a parliamentary group in the European Parliament, the participation of at least 23 MEPs from seven member countries is required.
