
The United States has provided more than $3.6 billion in aid to internally displaced people (IDPs) and refugees in Iraq, US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski said on July 9, Shafaq News reported.
Speaking at the ceremony announcing the guidelines for refugee management in Iraqi Kurdistan, Ambassador Romanowski said: “Following the war against ISIS in 2014, we provided more than $3.6 billion in assistance to internally displaced people and refugees.”
He highlighted joint efforts with the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Government of Iraq, international organizations and the global community to provide assistance and facilitate the return of Iraqi IDPs to their homes.
The US ambassador called on the Iraqi government and the regional government to ensure the return of internally displaced people to their homes with “Dignity and respect”She emphasized: “IDPs should not be forced to remain in camps or return home against their will.”.
