The Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) of Angola expressed today deep regret at the death of the former Attorney General of Portugal, noting that Joana Marques Vidal left an indelible mark on the exchange relations between both judicial bodies.
Helder Pitta Gros mentioned in a note of condolence that Joana Marques Vidal, who died on Tuesday in Portugal from an illness, dedicated her life to her career in the prosecutor’s office and was a natural orator.
The news of her death “saddened all the judges of the Angolan Ministry of Public Affairs,” he said in a note, noting that the Portuguese judge left an indelible mark on the exchange, cooperation and training between similar prosecutors’ offices.
According to the Angolan PGR, the distinguished lawyer and judge, Joana Marques Vidal, “shared her knowledge and experience with us” and was also a friend of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Angola and its judges.
“We remember with gratitude his contribution to strengthening the historical ties between our judicial institutions,” concluded Pitta Gros, addressing with great regret the family and the Portuguese judiciary.
Former Attorney General of the Republic Joana Marques Vidal died on Tuesday at the age of 68 at the São João Hospital in Porto after several weeks of hospitalization in a coma.
Joana Marques Vidal was the first woman to head the Attorney General’s Office of the Portuguese Republic, between 2012 and 2018, and was succeeded in this post by Lucilia Gago, the current PGR.
