Statue The Anne Frank House, located on the Merwedeplein in Amsterdam, not far from the house where the Jewish woman lived, was vandalized on Tuesday and painted over with red paint where the word “Gaza” can be read.
Amsterdam Governor Stijn Nijssen has already condemned the vandalism, The Sun reports, saying it was disgraceful that “someone would think to draw attention to the war between Israel and Palestine by defaming the image of Anne Frank.”
City Council Member, Femke Halsema called the act “an incredible disgrace.”
“This young girl, brutally murdered by the Nazis at the age of 15, reminds us every day of humanity and kindness in the most difficult circumstances,” he adds.
According to the same source, the bronze statue, mounted on a rectangular red granite pedestal, designed by Jet Schepp and unveiled in July 2009, pays tribute to Anne Frank and also commemorates the 13,000 Jewish neighbors who perished in the Holocaust.
