The total amount of agreements reached at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) held in Shanghai has exceeded 40 billion yuan (5.5 billion U.S. dollars), writes China Daily on July 11.
One of the key topics of the conference was the ethical aspects and issues of control of artificial intelligence technologies. The Shanghai Declaration on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence was presented at the conference.
The declaration sets out a commitment to promote the healthy, orderly and safe development of AI technologies through joint efforts and consultation on governance, mutual benefit and shared results. Speaking at the opening of WAIC, Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CCP Chen Jining said he expects a positive response to the proposed declaration from governments, the scientific and technological community and industry.
In his speech, Director of the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory John Bowen highlighted the lack of investment in the field of security of artificial intelligence technologies. He reported that less than 1% of total investment is spent on the security of these technologies.
