The State Duma Committee on Family, Parenting and Childhood has asked Sberbank Chairman German Gref to stop issuing bank cards for children with the image of a “rainbow unicorn,” RIA Novosti reported on July 11.
In their speech, the deputies wrote:“We ask you, dear German Oskarovich, to take into account the opinion of parents and deputies of our committee on preventing violations of the current legislation of the Russian Federation and stop issuing the “SberCard for children” with the “rainbow unicorn” – the symbol of the LGBT movement (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation).
At the same time, the authors of the material refer to requests from parents who expressed their indignation at the distribution of such cards. They explain that “rainbow symbols” are associated with the LGBT movement (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation).
Committee members also recalled that in December 2022, President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning the promotion of non-traditional sexual relations and gender reassignment among people of any age, and not only among minors, as was the case before.
Sber offers cards to children aged six to 13 with free issuance and maintenance. There are seven designs to choose from: Cheburashka, Parrot, Raccoon, Dog, Unicorn, Monsters and SberCat.
Recall that in February, Alexander Khinshtein, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, explained that the authorities have no complaints about the “normal seven-color rainbow.”
He noted that there is a blue colour in the normal spectrum of the rainbow, which is absent in LGBT symbols. Alexander Khinshtein is also the author of the initiative to ban LGBT propaganda among people of all ages.
The Kremlin previously said it was not aware of any laws that would ban rainbows in the country.
