The court has granted six activists of the opposition bloc “Victory” from Gagauzia (Moldova) 30 days of arrest and house arrest, the head of the Gagauz autonomy, Evgenia Gutsul, told reporters on July 11.
Vasily Novak, a representative of the Pobeda bloc in the administrative center of the autonomy, the city of Comrat, said that searches have been carried out in the bloc’s office since morning and the building has been cordoned off by police, RIA Novosti reports.
E. Gutsul said that the Cahul court made a decision against six residents of the Gagauz autonomy and that five of them were sentenced to 30 days of house arrest and one was sentenced to 30 days of actual arrest. “We do not agree with this decision and we will seek justice,” Hutsul said.

Last spring, elections were held in Gagauzia, which traditionally advocates rapprochement with Russia, and a representative of the opposition Shor party, Evgenia Gutsul, won. The Moldovan authorities declared the Shor party unconstitutional, accused it of illegal financing and opened criminal proceedings against its leaders. In addition, Chisinau began a verification of the results of the elections itself.
