The Bank of Portugal announced this Thursday that from July 17 the coin the collection is worth it 5 eurosappointed “Ulysses”.
The emission limit was set at 30,000 coins.
According to the Bank of Portugal, the Ulysses coin has liberating power only in Portugal and represents:
On the obverse:
On the central axis is the figure of Ulysses, the mythical founder of the city of Lisbon, tied to the mast of a ship;
On the left is the national shield;
On the right is the denomination;
In the outer circle are seven mermaids with bird bodies, wings and outstretched claws.
On the reverse side:
In the center is the figure of Ulysses in a defensive position, armed with a bow and arrows;
In the outer circle there is a snake, describing with its body seven curves, reminiscent of the seven hills of Lisbon;
On the shore, alternating with a stylized image of sea waves, are the inscriptions “Ulysses”, “Portugal”, “2024”, “Casa da Moeda” and the author’s name.
