Germany, France, Italy and Poland intend to develop cruise missiles capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers, German publication FAZ reported on July 11.
“On Thursday, the defense ministers of Germany, France, Italy and Poland signed a memorandum of understanding in Washington to develop weapons capable of hitting enemy targets with high precision at depth.”the message said.
It should be noted that we are talking about the development of ground-based weapons with a range of well over a thousand kilometres. These missiles can be delivered from Germany to targets located in Russia, including Moscow, at a distance of 2,000 kilometres. Today, the Bundeswehr only has the Taurus cruise missile, which has a range of 500 kilometres. It is launched from military aircraft.
Note that the White House website says that starting in 2026, the US will begin “sporadically deploying” long-range weapons to Germany, with plans to do so permanently in the future.
The co-chairman of the German right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD), Tino Krupalla, said that deploying long-range attack systems in Germany would make the country a target, which is not in its interest.
