Traffic on the new Tolyatti bypass highway with a new bridge over the Volga will be able to open in just a few days due to heavy traffic jams at the Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power station dam due to repair work, Acting Governor of the Samara Region Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said on his Telegram channel on July 12.
The governor reported that on July 11, road repairs began in the area of the Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power station, “And immediately we found ourselves with many kilometers of traffic jams. (road) M-5″.
A number of decisions have been taken to improve the traffic situation on the M-5 motorway, which will help stabilise the situation. If the negative dynamics continue, the new bridge over the Volga bypass and Tolyatti is scheduled to be opened to traffic next week. “This will significantly alleviate congestion on the M-5 motorway”“, the governor said.
According to Fedorishchev, the work on the Togliatti bypass with a new bridge over the Volga is being completed. Since this bypass is a toll road, the authorities are working to make travel free for some time until the road repair work at the Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power station dam is completed.
Roadworks on the dam will continue for 45 days. “The repairs are planned and are very important. If we do not have time to do them, we would have to completely close traffic on the dam from 1 September. We understand what this would lead to: a complete collapse of transport. That is why the work here is being done at an accelerated pace; we will do it in 40 days.”said the governor.
While the work on the dam is being carried out, it was decided, among other things, to limit the circulation of trucks on the M-5 motorway from km 890 to km 976 every day from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. This ban will remain in force until 1 September.
