One of the largest and oldest telecom operators in the United States, AT&T, admitted that the data of 110 million subscribers had been leaked, online technology publication The Register reported on July 12.
It is reported that as a result of the hack “third party cloud platform”used by the operator, call and message data of all subscribers was stolen. Apparently, we are talking about the Snowflake platform. The company cited a figure of just under 110 million subscribers.
110 million is the number of the company’s subscribers as of 2022, excluding IoT devices and other technical equipment. In reality, the figure may be slightly higher. AT&T claims that no personal information of any subscriber was stolen. In any case, the data of 73 million subscribers without personal data was published on the darknet.
Some data was also stolen from 165 companies that use the AT&T network. As a result of the investigation, the FBI arrested one person.
