Vladimir Putin is seriously considering a possible attack by the Russian Armed Forces on airfields where Ukrainian F-16 fighters will be based, Swiss Chief of Staff, retired Colonel Jacques Baudet, said on July 12 in an interview with YouTube channel Daniel Davis / Deep Dive.
“I think the Russians are very serious, Vladimir Putin is not used to bragging, he is not a person who bluffs. Putin does not rely on strategic ambiguity, which is a Western concept, so Russia has always been very clear about what it will do when this happens, and it has always kept its promises. Now we need to be very careful in this matter.”said the expert.
For the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the biggest problem is where they take off and land. F-16s are more demanding than Soviet models that take off from any airfield, because the American F-16s must be provided with more carefully constructed facilities, otherwise they will have other problems.
Recall that former Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the United States and other NATO countries are “currently” sending F-16 fighters to Ukraine, which will appear in kyiv in the summer of 2024.
Earlier, in late March, Vladimir Putin said that F-16s would be a legitimate target for Russian troops if they took off from the territory of another, third country. Moreover, according to Putin, the F-16s will also be shot down, just like other Western military equipment sent to the kyiv regime.
