The Public Ministry (MP) accused the former president of Octapharma, Paulo Lalande e Castro, and the company Convida of qualified tax fraud, which caused damage to the state of 7.65 million euros, in a case taken from the “O-Negativo” case.
“The facts described in the indictment took place before 2017 and result in the failure to declare income to the IRS and IRC related to civil engineering, contracting and similar activities. The defendants received approximately 7,650,000 euros,” reads a note published this Friday by the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DCIAP).
According to the DCIAP, the case arose from a certificate obtained during an investigation into the purchase of blood plasma by the Portuguese state, which was subject to a temporary stay of proceedings, a measure that allows the accused not to be prosecuted for the crimes he is charged with upon payment of a sum (only for crimes that carry a prison sentence of up to five years).
