Iran has proposed creating a BRICS information network to counter Western information attacks. The proposal was voiced by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Nasser Kanaani, on July 13 at a meeting of the heads of information departments and press secretaries of the BRICS foreign ministries in Moscow, IRNA reports.
Kanaani stressed the need to launch a BRICS information network to facilitate information exchange among member countries.
This network, he explained, could work to counter hostile forces in the West that impede the free flow of information within the BRICS, combat fake news campaigns and eliminate the negative consequences of unilateral sanctions.
The representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry noted that media diplomacy today is an integral part of diplomatic activities, as the media is the most powerful tool used by diplomats to “dissemination of opinions, messages and positions of countries”.
He also said Iran is ready to cooperate with other BRICS member countries to increase the alliance’s international authority, using the country’s media capabilities.
Recall that on July 11, at the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf called on the parliaments of the participating countries to jointly oppose Western sanctions.
