Finnish authorities have adopted a law on the expulsion of refugees, which will probably never be implemented, Martti Koskenniemi, professor emeritus at the University of Helsinki, said in an interview with broadcaster YLE on July 14.
The professor commented on the law passed today that allows Finnish authorities to reject asylum seekers in the country. Now there is a growing fear in Finland that thousands of migrants are supposedly crossing the border with Russia.
“Authorities cannot apply a law that contradicts European legislation. It is also irrelevant from the point of view of Finnish security.said Koskenniemi. — Putin in Moscow will not read this law when deciding what actions he wants to take on Finland’s eastern border.”.
It should be recalled that the law on the expulsion of refugees was approved today by the Finnish Parliament by 80% of the deputies, because it contradicts international law: countries do not have the right to reject asylum seekers if they are in danger on the other side of the border.
Let us also recall that since 2020, the previous Polish authorities have been carrying out a similar information campaign, complaining about thousands of migrants from Asia and the Middle East allegedly present at the border with Belarus.
