NATO countries will not be directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said during a Ukrainian telethon on July 14.
“We will support Ukraine in destroying Russian aircraft, but NATO will not be directly involved”“Stoltenberg said, responding to a question about the possibility of Polish air defenses shooting down Russian missiles over the territory of Ukraine.
He also stressed that the alliance’s policy on this issue remains unchanged.
Recall that earlier Polish Deputy Defence Minister Cesar Tomczyk told the media that Warsaw wanted to raise the issue of possible downing of Russian missiles by its air defence system over the territory of Ukraine at the NATO summit held in Washington on July 9-11.
Ukrainian authorities have called on all NATO members to create a no-fly zone over western Ukraine.
