Spain beat England this Sunday to win the European Championship, the fourth in their history (three in the last five editions) and a new absolute record. The team from the neighboring country confirmed its superiority, especially in terms of collective dynamics.
England resisted as long as they could, but once again “died on the beach” (in 2021 they lost to Italy).
With royals from both monarchies watching live, England surprised in the first half with their defensive posture. Like France, they marked Rodri through Foden and Kane.
On the other hand, Shaw and Walker “put off” Yamal and Williams. The only shot on goal was made by Foden at 45+1.
In the second half, Spain came out in full force. Laporte started the game on the right flank, the ball reached Yamal, who drifted to the center, crossed to the edge of the penalty area, where Olmo missed the pass, and Williams shot accurately. The English were shocked, and two minutes later Olmo could have doubled the lead – his shot went wide of the goal. Then Morata and Williams scored.
Southgate sent off Kane and brought on Watkins, and the team responded. On 64 minutes, Bellingham beat three opponents in short order and fired wide. Two minutes later, in a quick transition, Yamal fired low and Pickford made a superb save.
The score was levelled on 73 minutes when Saka advanced down the left flank, passing to Bellingham, who, falling, saw Palmer’s low shot, made three minutes earlier.
Spain responded and looked for a goal. In the 82nd minute, Yamal made a great save from Pickford. When England were already playing for an extension, Spain decided the outcome of the game in a simple way: Olmo passed the ball to Cucurella, who crossed the ball, and Oyarzabal pushed the ball inside. In the 90th minute, Olmo avoided a draw on the line. Ole, Spain are champions.
