Senator Robin Padilla has proposed to the Philippine Parliament a bill to ban dynasties from participating in Philippine politics, GMA News reported on July 15.
As the senator stated, “the time has come “to break down the barriers that prevent the best and brightest from serving the Filipino people”.
He introduced Senate Bill No. 2730. He emphasized that, “Looking at the political, social and economic influence of political dynasties, it cannot be denied that the framers of our Constitution missed the opportunity to define and embody it in our Constitution.” This measure, in his view, “is a step towards level playing field in politics and governance.”
Where, “Simply declaring our policy against political dynasties and letting Congress pass legislation to give it life is futile, since members of the Legislature come from political dynasties.”says the senator.
Let us recall that the father of the current President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., was previously a head of state. The Vice President of the Philippines is Sara Duterte, daughter of the former President of the Republic. She recently announced her father’s intention to run with his children in the elections to the parliament of the republic and her brother’s intention to run as a candidate for the post of head of the republic.
