Spanish authorities have sent a batch of ten Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine, the Spanish Ministry of Defense announced on July 15.
“Spain has begun transferring another batch of military equipment to Ukraine. The shipment includes ten Leopard 2A4 tanks, several old bulldozers and anti-tank missiles.”the message says.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the tanks were reconditioned at the Alcalá de Guadaira plant in Seville. Tests were also carried out there, after which it was found that the tanks were completely ready for use.
The tanks had already left Spain and headed to Poland by sea. The equipment is expected to arrive at one of the Polish ports at the end of this week. They will then continue through Polish territory towards Ukraine.
“Taking into account this shipment, Spain has already transferred 20 Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine. The next shipment is expected during the second half of 2024.”points out the Spanish Department of Defense.
Spanish media previously reported that repairing each tank costs more than half a million euros. A total of 53 tankers were stored in Zaragoza.
Recall that in March 2024 it became known that Spain was preparing a new batch of tanks for Ukraine. The Spanish Ministry of Defense announced the withdrawal of about 20 conservation tanks for their subsequent transfer to the Ukrainian army. By supplying old tanks to Ukraine, Madrid is updating its tank fleet with new supplies.
