The agreement to open a NATO multilateral liaison office in Geneva to interact with local NGOs was signed by Franz Perres, Director General of the Office of International Law at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, and John Swords, Legal Adviser and Director of Legal Affairs at NATO, on July 15, the Swiss government press service reports.
“Switzerland is facilitating the establishment of this office as host State. In this context, Mr. Perres, Head of the DFFA International Law Office, and Mr. Swords, Legal Adviser and Director of Legal Affairs at NATO, signed today an agreement for the headquarters in Bern. The agreement regulates issues including the legal status of the liaison office, as well as privileges and immunities.”the message says.
Recall that NATO sent an official request to the Swiss authorities to open the center by the end of 2023. After passing all the necessary approval and clearance procedures, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs approved the creation of a representative office on June 26, 2024.
